Update on Possible "Recession Stipend" Payment for Higher Education Workers In June the Tennessee General Assembly passed a budget that contains a one time payment for higher education workers that been referred to as the "Recession Stipend". This payment is contingent on tax collections exceeding predictions by $50 million. In the next few weeks we should know whether the $50 million target has been reached. Below is some additional information we have received: $701 million will need to be collected in August general fund revenues to trigger the bonus. The last two years have seen collections in July to be the following: 2008- 746.3 million 2009- 720.2 million It is believed that revenues will be closer to July 2007 levels, which was $679 million. Officials within Finance and Administration believe that the funding needed to trigger the bonus will be close. We will keep you up to date with the latest information we receive on this issue.
